Film Grammar

Colorful Animation ExpressionsI first found this blog, run by film scholar Oswald Iten, AGES ago when I was looking for ANY kind of behind the scenes material for the film Balto. I stumbled on the blog posts analyzing the color palette, and that was sort of my first exposure to that line of thinking. This was before color scripts were a known and widely used thing at studios, so it was all a revelation. Thinking about it now, it may have been my first exposure to really thinking about an animated film as a film? If you know what I mean. He’s also got great posts on Fantastic Mr. Fox and 101 Dalmatians and so many more, as well as an excellent list of resources on the bottom right column of his blog. Honestly though, just go to his archives and start at the very beginning.
